This ability of hers has ensured readers keep returning to her work time and time again, with her stories resonating regardless of the audience’s background. Leaving a strong impression on the reader, each of her characters is fully three-dimensional, with personalities of their own. This approach has made her hugely successful, as she has subsequently made the genre very much her own, with her own unique perspective.Ĭharacter creation is also something that Lauren Asher excels at, introducing protagonists who really stand out from the page. Overall, Throttled is an okay sports romance. An author of romance novels, Lauren Asher is well-regarded for writing emotional and engaging stories that really draw the reader in. She has her backbone moments, but they are few and far between. Maya is also a doormat for most of the novel. I cannot tell you how many times Noah shows up in a room and she can only think about how hot and sexy he is at the detriment of everything else. ![]() Maya’s inner monologue comes off as juvenile sometimes, especially when Noah is involved at the beginning of the novel. Throttled is fairly slow at times and lacks the amount of angst I would expect from a romance this long. Unfortunately for Throttled, the long page count doesn’t work for the story. 466 pages is on the long side for a romance, but that doesn’t automatically mean it’s not good. The biggest issue I had with Throttled was how long it was. Instead, Throttled is an okay sports romance with a slightly annoying main character. I didn’t hate Throttled, but I didn’t love it either.
